Hire |
You
can have a hire car dropped to your door and collected
again afterwards. Either we can arrange it for
you, or you can do it yourself.
You
don't actually need a car, but there is so much
to explore around the island that it is well worth
the effort, at least for a few days.

| Taxis |
Taxis
vary in price considerably. The main criteria
for determining cost seems to be whether you speak
Creole or English! Consequently, when we go out
as a couple, it confuses some of the drivers.
Last
month we went to Souillac from Chemin Grenier
and when we refused to pay 250 rupees for a taxi
the driver eventually came back and agreed to
take us for only 38 rupees instead!
Despite
the above, it is possible to have a taxi for several
hours for only 700 rupees if you know where to
find them.

Buses
run frequently to all the main towns. They are quite
rickety, although some of the express buses are
more comfortable and are air-conditioned |

| Cycling |
Cycle
hire is relatively cheap and the terrain is fairly
flat, so it is possible to travel long distances.
