Cost

Car Hire

You can have a hire car dropped to your door and collected again afterwards. Either we can arrange it for you, or you can do it yourself.

You don't actually need a car, but there is so much to explore around the island that it is well worth the effort, at least for a few days.

Contact Vishal on (00230) 255 3525. His cars are fully insured and serviced and he provides an excellent service.

approx. 1200 rupees per day

(£20)

Taxis

Taxis vary in price considerably. The main criteria for determining cost seems to be whether you speak Creole or English! Consequently, when we go out as a couple, it confuses some of the drivers.

Last month we went to Souillac from Chemin Grenier and when we refused to pay 250 rupees for a taxi the driver eventually came back and agreed to take us for only 38 rupees instead!

Despite the above, it is possible to have a taxi for several hours for only 700 rupees if you know where to find them.

100 Rs locally,

250 Rs to Grand Baie

550 Rs to Vacoas

Alteratively, you can hire a car with driver who will take you on a tailor-made guided tour for the whole day at a very reasonable price. Seats 6 (legally!). Contact Rakesh on (00230) 759 3576 Rs 1500 approx.
Buses Buses run frequently to all the main towns. They are quite rickety, although some of the express buses are more comfortable and are air-conditioned

20 rupees each way

(40p approx.)

Cycling Cycle hire is relatively cheap and the terrain is fairly flat, so it is possible to travel long distances. The scenary is fab.
Walking The cheapest of all transport! Everything you need is within walking distance of our house and, as a bonus, there are some stunning views in the surrounding countryside. Free
Organised Trips If you hate to drive and you want to still travel in comfort, you can always take a day trip. To make your life simple, the excursions often have numerous pick-up points. Variable
